Can I use any AC adaptor for my Yamaha P-80 keyboard?

Need a new adaptor but the manual says I need an official Yamaha PA-3B adaptor or basically the machine will "blow up". Sounds like BS. Can I just get any other adaptor from the local Radio Shack? I need a 12V AC adaptor.

What is the universal tip size of all Yamaha Electric Keyboard Power jacks?

It is for a PSR-248 Yamaha Keyboard, but I need to know the tip size or tip number so I can buy a cheaper one from Radio Shack. Anyone? Yamaha will not tell me because they want me to buy one of thiers.
